ya, but for a true test since you know he is stock and you had a 30 horse chip. you gotta run stock for stock or give the psd an extra 30.

Agreed. If you are on a towing tune it might not add much HP, but add a significant amount of torque as well as allowing the tranny to shift much better. Just making the tranny shift and work more efficiently would give you more pulling power.

I've heard of both, but never seen the DMax pulling the same load outpulling the 6.0L PSD...that's just my personal experience though. I had a buddy that had a Dmax and we were both towing 4420 JD's on 33' trailers...almost identical weight. When we got up to speed on the rural roads he was keeping up...when we got out on the main hwy. the speed limit was around 65MPH and I was pulling him on every hill...

On a side note, he did have bad problems with overheating all the time when towing. Don't know if that was part of the problem that day when we were towing...it was a hot summer day so he might have been backing off it. I didn't have any problems at all with the motor or tranny overheating.

At least for the Dodge...:

We were actually going to buy another truck for the business for towing tractors...I was thinking hard about getting a Dmax...being that our business is up in hill country, I think I'll pass.

Your truck also weights 1000 pounds less. : That makes a bit of a difference.

it's really funny that when a 6.0 gets waxed, you have 20 ford guys to comment/complain/make excuses that the ford truck was heavier, the dmax has a tow tune, ect. why cant you guys once in a while accept the possibility of defeat? and being a good sport about it.the truth of the matter is that the ford has 25 more hp and 50 more ft.lb. of tq, and 1000 more rpm, making a lb7 dmax eqal to the ford 6.0 with its tow tune(the chevy). and if the ford has a 4.10 gear its going to be faster out of the gate.

I don’t think it’s anything about who wins and who looses. To me it’s about what’s fair and what’s not. There was no mention of the size of the campers #1. If the Dmax is pulling a 24’ camper and the PSD is pulling a 37’ camper…well, that’s not fair. The only way to fairly do that is have the exact same camper behind both trucks.

Also towing tunes are more about efficiency then they are about adding massive amounts of power. Make the transmission run much more efficiently and you’ll gain a whole lot when it comes to towing.

I say do it over again with the same exact camper behind both trucks and run them both bone stock and see how the results come out. Maybe the PSD will win…maybe the Dmax will win…I don’t know, but I think you have to at least do it with a very close comparison.

Just for example my buddy has a 33’ camper that weighs in at around 8k lbs. Another buddy has a 33’ camper that weighs in at well over 12k lbs. The second guy with the heavier trailer has done a lot of remodeling to it and added much heavier materials. Now if we were to take those two campers, hook them up to the same exact truck, and pull them up a hill…one of them is going to walk off and leave the other.

Basically, you’d have to go and get on the scales to make sure the weights are the same…then do the test.
